Oaknoll Retirement Residence
The Oaknoll community was experiencing a steady population and a growing waiting list. The Independent Living community needed to grow and also provide amenities to a more active senior population. Space on the existing campus was not available for that growth and additional adjacent property needed to be acquired to fulfill its program.
Adjacent residential properties were purchased to make room for the expansion. Shive-Hattery created an addition featuring 52 apartments, a swimming pool, a spa, a fitness area and a movie theatre. The addition also included a new restaurant style dining area, main kitchen, and a welcoming new entry/front door experience. A green roof system—that controls storm water runoff and accentuates views from upper level apartments—was incorporated into the project for both environmental, aesthetic and maintenance reasons. The project's $20 million budget also included providing additional on-site parking through new parking structures connected to both the new and existing buildings.
Units in the new facility were sold before building was completed and a new and a waiting list that continues to grow was started. Vacated portions of the existing building were remodeled to add to Oaknoll's Assisted Living and Long Term Care services and provide dementia care areas for the facility. The innovative green roof approach has been so popular, that existing roofs in the facility were evaluated for the possibility of installing a green roof system. Overall, the new addition to the facility helps Oaknoll meet the growing needs of their client base. As importantly, the style of this addition reflects Oaknoll's goal to provide peaceful and beautiful accommodations for seniors in a residential atmosphere..
