Shive-Hattery has an immediate opening on our Industrial team for a Structural Engineer in Raleigh/Durham NC with over five years of professional experience . Candidates with related design backgrounds and knowledge of the local market will be considered.

With the support of the Group Leader and other structural engineers located in the Midwest, this position performs a variety of duties associated with design primarily on food, pharmaceutical and industrial manufacturing projects and related services, to assist in achieving desired client satisfaction, and business results.

This position’s initial focus is to support current project work over the design and construction phases as the primary local point of contact for our client. Having an entrepreneurial drive and willingness to build relationships is strongly encouraged.

Participation in applicable ASCE, NCEES, and/or community activities is preferred. 

  • Design projects as a structural engineer for industrial clients specifically focused on food and pharmaceutical space is preferred. Background working with manufacturing and higher education or healthcare projects of various sizes will have strong consideration. 
  • Work with experienced engineers and technicians while coordinating work within multi-discipline teams. The majority of efforts will focus on our long-standing Industrial clients who we work with locally and nationally
  • Additional responsibilities include overseeing shop drawing reviews and participation in construction observation

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering 
  • Experience: the ideal candidate is knowledgeable and driven with an appropriate work background more than five years’ experience.
  • License/Certification: Professional Engineer licensure in structural engineering, or the ability for immediate licensure in North Carolina.
  • Structural design and documentation experience using concrete, steel, and masonry. Wood design would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of programming, planning, and building performance is beneficial.
  • Motivated and creative professional; able to design with inherent understanding of building systems.
  • Experience and willingness to collaborate with other disciplines
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
  • Show good attention to detail.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills, and comfortable presenting design solutions to Owners
  • Experience using Revit, 3D software (Navisworks/Recap), structural engineering design software, and Microsoft Office software is preferred. 
  • Capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to drive and have access to an automobile, climb ladders and work off of elevated platforms and open grating, and wear personal protective equipment required for specific clients and sites
