Asbestos Consultation & Management Planning

Back to projects

Asbestos Consultation

When you are planning a project for an existing building, hazardous materials such as asbestos are potentially hidden problems. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that an asbestos survey be performed for every renovation and demolition project by a licensed asbestos inspector regardless of the age of the building (e.g. newer buildings are subject to this regulation).

Iowa Specifications

In Iowa, demolition and renovation projects require an asbestos notification that includes an asbestos survey. This survey includes taking samples suspect materials at site, having the samples tested and generating a report based on the findings.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) officials have the authority to shut down a project if asbestos testing has not been completed or if the asbestos survey report is not available on the job site. It is important that all rules and regulations are followed to avoid a project shut down and prevent exposure to those working around asbestos during a renovation or demolition project. Working with an environmental team for inspections, design, construction observation, and management plans can help you smoothly execute projects and mitigate potential problems before construction begins.

Asbestos Management Planning

Facility managers manage more buildings with less staff and budget than ever before. With many facilities, keeping current with all the regulations regarding asbestos-containing materials (ACM) can be overwhelming and often overlooked.

Our management planners will establish a plan based on current building conditions while maintaining records of historical inspections and abatement projects.
 Asbestos management plan services include:

  • Budgeting future removal costs
  • Operations and maintenance guidelines
  • Six-month surveillances
  • Three-year re-inspections
  • Organization of existing files into an efficient plan
  • Being an accurate and reliable source of information, especially during emergencies

Asbestos is a hazardous material, so it is important to keep the people who are around it healthy and safe. Having a compliant, current, and efficient management plan can be a valuable investment and give you peace of mind.
