Iowa Lagoon System Upgrade Funding

For Iowa communities with lagoons and tighter ammonia limits, there is technology available to upgrade and keep your lagoon without going to an activated sludge plant. Many of these cost-effective technologies are approved by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) including:

• Attached growth reactors utilizing plastic or rock media
• Insulated covers or a secondary heat source to increase winter process temperatures
• Lagoon hybrid modifications for extended aeration
