Shive-Hattery was honored to support the Iowa State University College of Design Health Design Studio again this year. Congratulations to the students, who are wrapping up their last week of the spring semester.
The multi-disciplined studio of architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and industrial design students designed a micro-hospital to meet the challenges of the rural healthcare environment in Iowa. Several of our healthcare design leaders were engaged throughout the semester to provide guest lectures, facility tours, and design reviews for the students, a truly rewarding experience.
The students’ project program was modeled after a recent Shive-Hattery-designed micro-hospital, the Beacon Granger Hospital in Granger, Indiana, which the students were able to tour in person, along with Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, and Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.
The studio also included a trip to Chicago, where students could visit Shive-Hattery Chicago, and get a sneak peek at the University of Illinois Health Specialty Care Building, a 200,000 SF state-of-the-art facility designed by ZGF + Shive-Hattery, set to open this fall.
Thank you to our fantastic healthcare clients Beacon Granger Hospital, Broadlawns Medical Center, Mary Greeley Medical Center, and University of Illinois Health for helping to enrich the healthcare design education with tours of their extraordinary facilities for our future designers in the Iowa State University Health Design Studio.
