Clear Creek Amana Oak Hill Elementary

With the rapid growth of the Clear Creek Amana school district, a new elementary school was needed to accommodate its growth. To ensure the district could continue to serve its students well into the future, Shive-Hattery’s architecture and engineering teams worked closely with administrators to ensure the building was built with inclusivity, sustainability, and efficiency of use in mind.

A new 74,500 square foot building now stands in the community as a pillar of education. The Oak Hill Elementary School offers a vibrant main office area, interactive classrooms, an inviting library, dual gymnasium/storm shelter space, full-service kitchen, and cafeteria. Of course, as an elementary school, it also needed fun, playful touches throughout. Students at Oak Hill find white boards for a game of tic-tac-toe and lively classroom discussions, cozy reading nooks, colorful patterns and furniture, as well as an open turf area with modern playground amenities to round out their learning experiences.

Land surveying allowed the building to be completely at ground-level and inclusive design throughout made the building beyond just ADA compliant. Its contemporary mechanical systems include a new geothermal loop field with heat pumps for individual rooms, ventilation units that were also connected to the geothermal loop field, and a domestic water heater plant to ensure temperature-controlled comfort throughout the year. Lighting systems were designed to allow occupancy controls, thereby saving energy and cutting down on maintenance.

The wellness of students, staff, and future community members is in good hands at Oak Hill Elementary School, where teachers and administrators are true child advocates. Their new building represents this commitment to building positive relationships, offering solutions for all learners’ needs, and creating a welcoming experience for all.
