Leveraging P3 Collaboration to Improve Access to Care

Through a Public-Private Partnership, University of Illinois Health completed its Specialty Care Building one year early and 30% larger than planned — all within the original budget.

University of Illinois Health (UI Health), part of the University of Illinois of Chicago (UIC), is on a mission to address the health disparities that prevent certain groups from experiencing full and complete care.

To reduce these differences in healthcare, UI Health wanted to make more specialty services available to patients in underserved areas of Chicago, giving them access to the same level of care that other groups receive. A new facility to support expert services and same-day surgery was the way to make it happen.

Getting this building open quickly was critical. Once everyone understood the amount of opportunity P3 presented from a cost standpoint and speed to market, they were in full support.

The Specialty Care Building is the first P3 healthcare project in the state.

This cutting-edge facility has received the title of “Best Healthcare Project” by ENR Midwest, along with several other honors since its opening.
